The Spring Cold Snap: Major Crop Damage, But Not All Is Lost

Last modified on 2012-05-19 12:53:12 GMT. 0 comments. Top.

The heat wave we experienced in early March, followed by heavy frost in later in the month and in April was deadly for our fruit crop. Like most of Ontario’s Southwestern fruit growers, we lost our cherries, plums, pears and apples.  At this stage, it is still too early to tell wether there will be a few fruits per tree or none at all, but whatever there is will definitely be scarce!

Our strawberry and raspberry crop is on track so far.  Rhubarb is available as of now. We have a good supply of apple butter, honey, maple syrup, apple syrup and garlic.  We still have some frozen apple juice.

We are gratefull to all our customers for their business, and hope to see many of you at the strawberry patch around the third week of June. We will keep you updated.
